#EndSARS Violence: Senator Tofowomo Condemns Attacks on Government Facilities, Urge Ondo South Youths to Embrace Peace

The wanton destruction of public infrastructure in Okitipupa local government shows that we are destroying our common heritage and losing the liberation struggle. It shows we are opening doors for strangers and criminals to invade our lands.

As it is now, no more police command in the local government. It shows the security of the entire LG is gone. The prison break shows we have opened our doors for criminals and miscreants.

The burning of the local government secretariat shows Okitipupa does no longer have a local government for now. It means those who need one document or the other from the local government authority may not get it in time no matter how urgent. This indicates the functions and the delivery of services by the LG have been suspended by the people themselves.

The burning of the court building shows we have denied many litigants who are seeking justice from getting justice. We have increased their burden which will directly or indirectly affect the cost of legal fees in Okitipupa. It shows criminal can no longer be tried for now in the town. It means people would have to adopt crude methods of resolving the different disputes they face now. The people have just created a lawless society.

Destroying the only Palm Oil Company in the town shows the people have increased joblessness and the rate of unemployment with increased poverty in the land. The violence has just added to the economic challenges of the area.

Where is the freedom for looting and destroying INEC office in Okitipupa? Is that also part of the agitation? Of what significant is the wanton destruction of public infrastructure?

Is Engr. Ifeoluwa Oyedele, not our son? What are the benefits of destroying his house? Why are we fighting ourselves? Is that also part of the struggle for police reform? Why are we living by each other misery instead of each other happiness? Why should we despise one another? Do we need to create hatred and enmity within our communities to demand a total end to police brutality?

The liberation struggle is not by fighting ourselves. The protest although laudable but now derailed. We have missed the way. I advise we all calm down. Everyone in Ondo South should re-orientate and re-educate his neighbour and friends about this struggle, else we will open the doors of our land to strangers for war and anarchy.

I sympathise with Engr Ifeoluwa Oyedele. I condemn the attack on his house and other public infrastructure in Ondo State including the secretariats of the ruling APC and that of the PDP. I dare say, freedom does not come by violence and wanton destruction of property.
