The Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, will on Wednesday (today) brief heads of diplomatic missions and international organisations accredited to monitor elections in Nigeria on INEC preparations for the elections.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman, George Edokpa, said this in a statement on Tuesday, adding that the briefing would hold at Tafawa Balewa House, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja.

Many envoys including the United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Stuart Symington; United Kingdom High Commissioner, Catriona Laing; and other senior diplomats are expected to be at the meeting.

Meanwhile, the Labour Party has condemned the postponement of the elections, saying it was a plot to disenfranchise Nigerians who were eager to vote for the candidates of their choice.

The party in a statement by its Director of Publicity and Media Strategy, Yinka Richards, called on Nigerians to be calm and embrace peace.

The statement partly read, “We are at a crucial stage in our country when we need to take the interest of the people above personal interest. Security is a national issue that has to be dealt with holistically as we prepare to vote the candidates of our choice at the general elections.”
