Kunle Adebayo’s Draconian Style And The Future Of OSRC/Orange Fm

Kunle Adebayo

It has become very imperative to quickly bring the attention of our amiable Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to the plight of the workers in the state owned media, OSRC&ORANGE 94.5fm which is largely premised on the draconian style of the interim management committee Chairman of Osrc Tv&Orange 94.5fm, Akure, Mr Kunle Adebayo which has not only negatively affected the morale of staff members who are at the receiving end of Mr Adebayo’s unending insults but has turned the stations into a shadow of itself.

There have been series of complaints in different quarters about the arrogance and poor management style of Mr Adebayo which has received little or no attention from the Governor. This has further empowered Mr Kunle Adebayo the more to wreck more havoc on the people’s heritage as he is fond of flaunting his closeness to Mr Governor to anyone that cares to listen as a factor to get away with anything in the state.

The Issues:

  1. Mr Kunle Adebayo lacks the requisite professional experience to be in charge of the stations because
ONLY a professional with at least 15years active cognate broadcast experience, 5 of which must have been in the management cadre, shall be made the Chief Executive of a broadcasting station(NBC Code 3.4). The Governor as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria is one that we believe will not like to go against the law guiding broadcasting in Nigeria as Mr Kunle Adebayo has never being in active broadcast practise aside the few months of freelancing with Osrc.
  2. Workers in the state owned media are very crucial to the propagation of government’s programmes and activities. Thus, subjecting them to a terrible working environment typical of what is experienced under the Almighty Mr Kunle Adebayo where workers are being insulted at will, creativity is not allowed to thrive, the best of hands are pushed under to give room for some charlatans etc may be inimical to overall goals and objectives.
  3. It becomes unheard of that Osrc&Orange fm were making more money in its comatose state than what it is making now despite the huge investments of Governor Akeredolu to improve the two stations. As it stands today, Orange 94.5fm is the financial backbone of Osrc Tv since the latter hardly makes sufficient money to guarantee its operations and this by extension is putting too much pressure on the Orange fm purse.
  4. Happenings at both stations do not justify the huge investment of Mr Governor in recent times which may be a pointer to huge financial recklessness by the Kunle Adebayo led committee.
  5. It has been established that other members of the Committee like Mr Soji Alakuro and Sir Steve Alabi do not have much say as all decisions still boils down to whatever Mr Kunle Adebayo wants.
  6. Mr Kunle Adebayo does not enjoy the confidence of the political class in the state especially members of the APC due to his extreme character and managerial deficiencies and this may have huge negative impacts as the Governorship election in Ondo State beckons.
  7. Mr Kunle Adebayo was excused from Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo under very questionable circumstances. A situation which was one of the reasons that forced him to change name from Mr Kunle Ogunwale to Mr Kunle Adebayo. How then can such a man be in charge of an outfit that should serve as a Public Relations platform for government. That will by no means put a question mark on the image of the entire state.
  8. There is no reason to lock down Osrc 96.5fm as the radio station runs on the same generating set with the TV and is being manned by the same staff who are already in the employ of government. Allowing the station to be on air will only make more money for government as against the narratives put forward by Kunle Adebayo and his team. Osun state that is even poorer than Ondo State runs two radio stations and two TV stations. Despite the closure of the station, a sum of #1,000,000 is still being paid to the National Broadcasting Commission(NBC) yearly as license renewal fee. It implies ODSG has paid 2million naira of tax payers money to the NBC for a license that was not used for free because Mr Adebayo wants to prove a point with the closure of Osrc 96.5fm.

WAY FORWARD:

  1. An immediate dissolution of the interim management committee headed by Mr Kunle Adebayo to pave way for the appointment of professionals as the administrative heads of the three stations(Osrc Radio, Osrc TV, Orange fm)
  2. The Appointment of equally qualified Ondo State indigenes into a board to superintend the administration of the stations.
  3. A quick check of the books to ascertain the financial situation of Osrc&Orange fm to ask questions where and when necessary and plan for the future.

These steps as suggested will help assuage the already aggrieved workers, create a direction for the station that has already lost its professional focus and put smiles on the faces of Ondo State people who have become disturbed by the unending news of Mr Adebayo’s draconian style.
