2019 AFCON: Rohr Reveals What Mikel Will Do For Super Eagles

Super Eagles CaptainMikel Obi And Coach, Gernot Rohr

Captain Mikel Obi is a big part of the Super Eagles team as they prepare for the 2019 African Cup of Nations, according to team coach, Gernot Rohr.

Mikel who now plays for Middlesbrough in the English championship has not featured for the Eagles since the team’s ouster from the 2018 World Cup.

While speaking on Mikel’s move to England, Rohr said it was important for the former Chelsea star to keep fit ahead of the Afcon in Egypt.

“We need good players, we need experience, we need the Captain in good fitness so he can bring something to the team,” the coach said.

’’We already have good players, it is a competition, nobody has his starting place guaranteed even Mikel has to fight.

“Perhaps he can come and not start the game also, you know this. All is possible, the best one will play.

“His experience again is very important and to be respected as a team if you play international tournaments or very important games.”

Mikel featured at the 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2013 Afcon for the West Africans.
