Ondo PDP Primary: Agboola Ajayi Emerges Winner

Agboola Ajayi has emerged victorious in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primary elections in Ondo State. The former deputy governor clinched the governorship ticket for the upcoming November election, marking a notable comeback in his political career.

Ajayi, who previously served as the deputy governor of Ondo State, secured the party’s nomination after a competitive race. His victory was announced following the primaries held on Thursday, where he garnered a majority of the votes among the delegates.

The primaries saw Ajayi leading with 264 votes. His closest competitor, a former member of the House of Representatives, Hon Kolade Akinjo, received 157 votes, while the third position was claimed by Chief Sola Ebiseni with 99 votes.

The election committee chairman, expressing confidence in the party’s prospects, stated, “We’ll win Ondo back in November.” This sentiment reflects the party’s determination to regain control in the state.

After parting ways with the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu due to irreconcilable differences, he joined the PDP. Despite a setback in the 2020 governorship election where he represented the Zenith Labour Party and came third, Ajayi’s return to the PDP has now positioned him as a key contender for the state’s top office.
