Akingboye Berates Akeredolu Over Ijapo/Alagbaka Hotels Ban

Otunba Bamidele Akingboye

Otunba Bamidele Akingboye (OBA), berates Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and members of his team over their decision at the State Executive Council meeting, held on Monday, 6th May, 2019 to ban building of Hotels in the Ijapo/Alagbaka axis of Akure.

Akingboye considers such decision as anti people. Hotels, Club houses and Beer Parlours are business ventures that customers are free to patronise at will just as other businesses. People have the right to purchase landed properties and use them for any purpose they deemed fit including hotel businesses.

Such policy by the state government is going to hinder businesses and therefore destroy the economy of the state capital, the state at large and by implication, the state would be going off the market or off the grid of potential investors.

A serious government ought to know that hotels and club houses encourage the influx of other businesses which improves the economy of the state. Therefore, it is illogical to expect the state to thrive after killing its potentiality.

Furthermore, a ban on building of Hotels and club houses is an indication that Akeredolu’s government is insincere in the aspect of job creation for the teeming unemployed youths in the state, as it is incontrovertible that not all jobs can be created by government. Hence, the need to support private businesses, hotels and clubs inclusive.

Akingboye in his usual self as a deep thinker considers the policy as tyrannical. In that, it means Governor Akeredolu is limiting people’s quest for entertainment, relaxation and other forms of social life. It is a thing of common sense that building of more hotels and club houses leaves the people with more choices and create an healthy competition.

Nigeria is a democratic nation and the democratic values of our nation is expected to be upheld at all times.

This policy only shows the level of shortsightedness of the incumbent government in Ondo State because we have an example to make of Dubai that has made a fortune from hoteling and related businesses.

One would expect that Governor Akeredolu and his team would have thought outside the box and stopped any form of political vituperation in the face of development of the state.

Governor Akeredolu should be reminded that building and acquiring hotels, club houses or beer parlor is not criminal in Nigeria. It is supported by the law.

Akingboye advises the governor and his team to always think deeply and give better backing for her policies because no valid reason was given for the “hotel ban” decision.

Talk about security of the people and property; that can be handled by a joint effort of the hotel or club owners and the government. Extant laws can also be made on the issue of noise pollution if those would be the reason for this unimaginable decision of the Akeredolu-led government.

The good people of Ondo state are enjoined to remain calm and peaceful as the Ramadan continues.

They should use the Holy Month to pray for the state as Akingboye hopes to take over the leadership of Ondo state come 2020 and bring a beautiful shine to the Sunshine State.
