APC Gov. Aspirant Reportedly Nabbed by EFCC in Embezzlement Probe!

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reportedly detained Wale Akinterinwa, an All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Ondo State. Akinterinwa, who previously served as the commissioner for finance during former Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s administration, is now under investigation for alleged mismanagement of state funds.

Akinterinwa’s alleged detention is related to an ongoing probe into his tenure as commissioner for finance. The EFCC is investigating allegations of financial mismanagement involving billions of Naira. Until the State Executive Council was dissolved by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who succeeded the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, Akinterinwa had served as commissioner for over seven years.

Despite being in detention, Akinterinwa participated in the APC gubernatorial primary election held over the weekend. The EFCC clarified that the timing of his detention was at its discretion, even though he was allowed to take part in the primary election. Akinterinwa voluntarily reported to the EFCC in Abuja after being invited for interrogation several weeks ago. His detention is not politically motivated, according to the commission.

Meanwhile, Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa emerged as the winner of the APC primary election, defeating 15 other candidates. The situation remains fluid, and further developments are expected as the investigation continues. Akinterinwa’s political future hangs in the balance, and the outcome of the EFCC’s probe will likely have significant implications for his aspirations in the upcoming governorship race.
