APM Is Not Affiliated to Any Political Party” – Convener, Mazi Agodi Kanu

As Group charts a new Political Course for Abia State.

Abia State is set to experience a new political push with the birth of an organisation, Abia Political Movement (APM) whose members are drawn from across political parties, professional organisations and across the 17 local government areas and three senatorial zones of the state.

This came to the fore in its inaugural meeting which took place during the week in Umuahia, the Abia State Capital.

According to the convener and Director-General of the APM, Mazi Agodi Kanu, the group is not a political party but a movement aimed at ensuring that political parties in the state begin to embrace internal democracy especially during the selection of their political office aspirants, and do away with the norm of imposing the wrong people against the will of the electorate.

“APM has come at this point in time to put in perspective that different political parties must begin to embrace internal democracy and not imposition. Different political parties must begin to give powers to the electorate, and know that power comes from the electorate and resides with the electorate because when they elect you, they can also remove you.” Kanu said.

Mazi Kanu further emphasised that the group has not come to fight any government, whether past or present or present itself as a political party; rather, it is focused on righting the wrongs of the past by providing credible supports for credible candidates.

In his words, “Let me clarify something, the APM is not fighting government, APM is not ready to fight government, either this government or past government, APM has a future and we’re not funded by anybody and neither do we have any political moneybag behind us – just as we’re not affiliated to any political party.”

Members of the group in their separate speeches expressed support and optimism for the Group.

Highpoint of the gathering was the issuance of appointment letters and inauguration of the state and zonal officials of the group.

Among those inaugurated is a Popular Broadcast Journalist and Politician, Mrs Francess Olisa-Ogbonnaya (TABITHA) who was inaugurated as the Director of Media and Publicity for the Organization.

It is hoped that come 2023, when the state shall be going to the polls to elect new political leaders for herself, the Abia Political Movement (APM) would make the desired impact.
