Bandits Abduct Two Journalists and Their Families in Kaduna State

Armed bandits stormed the Dahjonu community in Millennium City, located within the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The incident occurred late on Saturday night, leaving the community in shock and fear.

The victims of this audacious abduction include two prominent journalists: Abdulgafar Alabelewe, a respected reporter from The Nation newspaper, and AbdulRaheem Abdu, who works for the Blueprint newspaper. These journalists, along with their wives and children, were taken captive by the ruthless assailants.

According to a family member of one of the victims, Taofeeq Olayemi, the bandits struck around 10:30 pm. They fired indiscriminately, creating panic and chaos before forcibly abducting the victims. Alabelewe, who also serves as the current chairman of the correspondents chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Kaduna state, was among those kidnapped. His wife and two children were also taken.

Abdu and his wife, who was unwell at the time, suffered a similar fate. The bandits scaled their fence, shattered doors and windows, and removed burglar-proofing to gain entry. Tragically, they left behind their sick daughter.

As of now, the Kaduna state police command has not issued an official statement regarding the kidnapping. The situation remains tense, and the community awaits updates on the safety and well-being of the abducted journalists and their families.

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has condemned the abduction, calling for urgent action to ensure the safe return of the victims.
