Barcelona React To Lionel Messi Leaving Spanish Club

Lionel Messi

Barcelona are already preparing for the retirement of Argentine star Lionel Messi, according to its president Josep Maria Bartomeu.

Bartomeu added that the team’s recent transfer activities have been done with Lionel Messi in mind.

Zebra News understands that the Spanish side agreed to a £65million deal to sign 21-year-old Ajax midfielder Frenkie De Jong in January.

It also signed teenage defender Jean-Clair Todibo among others.

And Bartomeu has revealed that the players were signed to prepare the team ahead of Messi’s retirement.

“I know one day Lionel will say he’s retiring,” he told The BBC. “We have to prepare the club for the future.

“We are bringing great young players to the team because we need to continue this era of success. That’s our responsibility.

“My mandate will be finished in two seasons. So I need to leave the club in a great position and tell the new president ‘that’s our legacy’.”
