Book Review: Conflicts Of Destiny By Adeoye Abimbola Adewale

Conflicts Of Destiny By Adeoye Abimbola Adewle

CONFLICTS OF DESTINY, a 166-page spiritual book written in 24 chapters by Adeoye Abimbola Adewale, is an exposition on the hitherto hidden areas of destiny as well as a revelation on the spiritual battles that go on behind the curtains on the path of actualizing destiny.

The book conveys the author’s conviction that, although God has programmed humans to success at creation, they must overcome the vicissitudes of life and the many deceptions and distractions of the devil for their destiny to be accomplished.

Therefore, the author acknowledges that life must be clearly understood to avoid the numerous conflicts of destiny.

While defining destiny, Adewale observes that it is “the fulfilment of God’s original plan for one’s life in record time to bless humanity with all heavenly talents God has endued one with.”

Written in two parts, the first part, chapters one to sixteen, focuses on espousing the concept of destiny: the consequences of the choices we make; the need to discover destiny on time and be adequately prepared for it; the various factors that affects destiny such as defining moments, destiny helpers, destiny killers; and the required authority and trust. All these, according to the author, are thee roles we must play in actualizing our Go-ordained destiny.

On the other hand, the second part, chapters seventeen to twenty-four, dwells on the spiritual dimensions: the battles and contention for our destiny; the efficacy of prayer; winning the battles of life and resolving the conflicts of destiny.

Apart from the thought-provoking content, there are two other fascinating aspects of the book, namely, the aesthetics of the cover page design and the style of writing. The design, with its dual representation, to all intents and purposes, agrees with the book title. With a tree, depicted as both green and flourishing on the right but withered and scorched on the left; a deep blue sea on the right but a dry and lifeless desert on the left; misty and cloudy sky on the right but a sunny and hot sky on the left; and with a path that leads to the tree, the author suggests that where one ends up is a matter of choice.

The author’s style of writing is lucid as thoughts are presented in smooth flowing flowery and elegant prose. Adewale has written with a sense of mission void of ambiguity such that readers don’t have to carry dictionary about to get at the meaning of the book.

In chapter one, the author gives different shades of meaning of destiny and answers the question of how one can fulfill his/her destiny. The author however cautions that one should not let their desires and ambitions conflict their destiny.

Even though God has everyone’s destiny with Him, the author argues in chapter two that humans’ destiny does not solely depend on God-factor alone, but also on decisions and actions. As such, the author admonishes the readers to always decide and choose wisely and not to allow temporary needs make them take poor decisions.

Titled Discovery, chapter three explains how one could discover his/her destiny. To achieve this, the author recommends prayer, the study of God’s Word, identifying areas of passion, love for the Trinity among others as the way out.

In chapter six, the author stresses the importance of location to the fulfillment of destiny. Taking a more spiritual approach to it by alluding to biblical characters like Abraham and Joseph, the author avers that destiny must be matched with the right location/environment for it to blossom.

Chapter 20 elaborates the efficacy of prayer and contains the author’s laments that contemporary believers are poor with prayer. Emphasizing the critical role of prayer in actualizing destiny, the observes that pines that believers have not recognized this. The author therefore challenges readers to a life of effective prayer.

The author gives us insight into how we can win the battles of destiny in chapter 21. This chapter is instructive as it highlights the various steps believer must take to actualise destiny. Such steps include: asking God to open our spiritual eyesight; understanding the modus operandi of the enemy; learning and knowing the ministry of angels; putting on the whole armour of God; guiding our mind with all diligence; using the power of God’s Word to fight off the enemy among others.

Just as the author counsels that one surrender to Jesus early in life in chapter 22, he demonstrates in the concluding chapter, chapter 24, that it is by willingly returning to and staying with the Lord, whose arms are always open, that one can resolve the conflicts of destiny. The book is also notable for the prophetic destiny declaration the author appends at the end of the book.
