The Economic and Financial Crime Commission has officially begun the probe of former president Olusegun Obasanjo over the alleged mismanagement $16billion released for power projects during the former’s president tenure.
It was learnt that the probe was kept secret from the public especially from having media attention. President Buhari during the 2019 election campaign, vowed to probe the $16bn spent by Obasanjo on Power Sector which according to him, has no impact on the electricity of the country.
An EFCC Source who pleaded anonymity on Sunday night, said that the Commission has invited some chief executive officers of the companies involved in the contract, alongside top civil servants who played key roles in the disbursement of the said funds.
The source hinted that Hon Ndidi Elumelu, a member of House of Representative and former chairman of the house committee on power is presently assisting the operatives of the EFCC in their investigation.
The EFCC has reportedly collected bank account statement of disbursements of the said funds with other relevant documents useful for their probe.
