Singer and actor Jennifer Lopez has officially filed for divorce from Ben Affleck, ending their two-year marriage. The Hollywood power couple tied the knot in Las Vegas in July 2022, rekindling their relationship almost two decades after their initial engagement fell apart.
Court documents reveal that Lopez filed the divorce papers on Tuesday, exactly two years after their grand wedding ceremony held a month after their Vegas trip. Notably, there is no prenuptial agreement between the two stars, according to entertainment news outlet TMZ.
The couple, affectionately known as “Bennifer,” first got engaged in the early 2000s but called off their wedding in 2003. They cited the pressure of public scrutiny as a reason for their split. However, fate brought them back together, and in 2022, they had not one but two weddings. The first was an intimate affair in Las Vegas, where they stood in line for their marriage license with four other couples and exchanged vows just after midnight at A Little White Wedding Chapel.
A month later, they celebrated a more elaborate wedding at Affleck’s house in Georgia, surrounded by friends and family. Lopez described their love story as “beautiful” and “patient,” emphasizing that their journey had a happy ending.
This divorce marks the third for Lopez, who was previously married to singer Marc Anthony. Affleck, on the other hand, split from actress Jennifer Garner in 2018 after 13 years of marriage.
Spokespeople for both stars have not yet responded to requests for comment. As the legal proceedings unfold, the world watches to see how the couple’s $640 million net worth will be divided.
