COVID-19: Wedding Guests Flee As Ekiti Shut Hotel

Kayode Fayemi

The Coordinator, Ekiti State COVID-19 Task Force, Prof. Bolaji Aluko, said on Sunday that men of the Ekiti State Task Force on COVID-19 shut down a popular hotel in Ado Ekiti on Saturday for violating government’s regulations.

Aluko said the task force acted on a tip-off that the hotel contravened government’s regulations limiting gathering to 20 persons, adding that the hotel also violated the total lockdown of the state on Saturdays and Sundays.

The coordinator, who spoke in Ado Ekiti, cautioned residents of the state, especially owners of relaxation centres, against violating the COVID-19 regulations.

Aluko said, “We got a report that a wide and an elaborate wedding party was being held in the hotel on Ilawe Road and we swung into action. We sent security operatives to go there and check and when the team went to check, they saw a large crowd of people in the hotel eating and drinking.”

Sources said wedding guests at the elaborate wedding party fled to evade being arrested by the operatives.

The arrival of the task force team was said to have brought the wedding to an abrupt end.
