Crackdown on Banned Styrofoam in Lagos Markets

In a recent environmental crackdown, Lagos State’s environmental authorities conducted a widespread operation to confiscate prohibited styrofoam containers from various markets within the state’s municipalities.

Tokunbo Wahab, the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, revealed the operation’s success through a series of photographs and a video posted on his social media platform on Friday.

The accompanying text stated, “The enforcement divisions of the Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources have escalated efforts to eliminate the use of proscribed styrofoam containers in markets throughout Lagos.”

The environmental task force carried out raids on Thursday, targeting vendors in Ikorodu, Mosan Okunola, Badagry, Amuwo Odofin, Ojo, Somolu, Eti-Ota East LCDA, and Eti-Osa, among other locales.

Commissioner Wahab announced that the collected styrofoam products are slated for incineration.
