Devastating Floods in Kenya Claim Over 50 Lives: Urgent Rescue Operations Underway

The latest reports indicate that over 70 people have been killed due to a dam burst in Kenya’s rift valley region, with scores reported missing as the country is ravaged by mass flooding. President William Ruto has promised assistance for the “victims of climate change” as the death toll from the floods nears 170. Additionally, an evacuation order has been issued for Kenyans living in areas at risk of flooding or landslides.

The United Nations reports that at least 32 people have lost their lives and more than 40,000 have been displaced due to the heavy rains and flooding in Nairobi. The situation has escalated to extreme levels, with entire neighbourhoods flooded and residents trapped on the roofs of their homes. The county government is overwhelmed, and national emergency services have been mobilized to save lives.
