The Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere Ekiti, has expelled two female students. The expulsion comes in the wake of a disturbing incident that was captured in a viral video, where one student was seen assaulting a colleague over personal grievances.
The university’s Public Relations Officer confirmed the expulsion of the students, identified as Opemiposi Precious Bolaji, an 18-year-old first-year Mass Communication student, and her accomplice, Genesis Osaro. The altercation, which took place in a private hostel outside the university campus, was reportedly over a love affair gone sour.
Bolaji was found guilty of misconduct and a flagrant breach of her matriculation oath for physically attacking her colleague, Gloria Ajayi, with a stick and threatening to draw blood. Osaro, who provided the stick used in the assault, was also expelled for her role as an accomplice.
The incident has not only drawn the ire of the university administration but has also caught the attention of law enforcement. The state commissioner of police has ordered a thorough investigation into the matter, ensuring that justice is served and such reprehensible actions are deterred in the future.
As the university community reels from this shocking event, the administration reiterates its commitment to providing a safe and inclusive environment for all students. The university encourages anyone who witnesses or experiences any form of harassment or violence to report it immediately to the appropriate authorities.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of bullying and the importance of maintaining a respectful and dignified atmosphere within educational institutions.
