In a surprising turn of events, tech billionaire Elon Musk has announced his commitment to contribute approximately $45 million each month to a new super political-action committee (PAC) backing Donald Trump’s bid for the US presidency. This revelation was reported by the Wall Street Journal on Monday.
Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has formally endorsed Trump following an assassination attempt at a rally in Pennsylvania. “I fully endorse President Trump and hope for his rapid recovery,” Musk stated on X, formerly known as Twitter¹². This endorsement marks a significant shift for Musk, who has previously supported Democratic candidates, including President Joe Biden.
The new PAC, named America PAC, aims to bolster voter registration and encourage early and mail-in voting in swing states. It has already raised $8.75 million in contributions during the three months ending June 30, with notable backers including Palantir Technologies co-founder Joe Lonsdale and the Winklevoss twins.
Musk’s substantial financial backing is expected to play a pivotal role in Trump’s campaign strategy, particularly in countering the extensive ground efforts of the Biden campaign in key battleground states.
