The Federal Government has said Citizens who found their crust Abroad and wish to return to their father’s land must test negative to COVID-19. This information was contained in the COVID-19 Application form for Nigerians that plan to return to the country.

It was gathered that any Nigeria nationals that want to join the evacuation flights planned by the Federal Government must be tested for COVID-19 and certified negative. One of the contents in the form clearly started that Nigerians abroad must be tested for the Virus in their respective country of residence and be issued an Authorized Health Clearance Certificate attesting that such Nigerian is free from the pandemic. Furthermore, the certified issued must be presented and authenticated by officials at the said county of Departure before the citizen would be allowed to board the Aircraft.

Another requirement stated that the cost of travel would be paid by evacuees and upon returning to Nigeria, Citizens would be placed on a compulsory 14- days quarantine at any approved location by the NCDC.

This was confirmed by NIDCOM Chairman, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, when he addressed a concerned Nigerian abroad on his Twitter account. He said “Dear Madam, we have been instructed to go for a Covid-19 test before we can be considered for evacuation from the United States. This is both sad to and shocking to us considering that we are visitors in the US with no access to any health and social care benefits.”

However, Citizens abroad have been notified about the new protocol by NCDC and that it is above the decision of NIDCOM. They are further advised to adhere to all protocol instructions as they find their path to Nigeria.
