In a significant move to address housing challenges, the Federal Government of Nigeria has partnered with the Ondo State Government to construct 1,000 housing units across the state. This initiative is part of a broader effort to provide affordable housing for Nigerians and stimulate economic growth.
The announcement was made by the Ondo State Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Mr. Akinwumi Sowore, during a recent program organized by the Commissioner for Information, Mr. Wale Akinlosotu. Mr. Sowore highlighted that the state government has allocated 100 hectares of land in Akure, Ikare, Ore, and Ugbo for this ambitious project.
“The collaboration aims to improve the housing situation in the state,” said Mr. Sowore. “Our ministry is responsible for the construction, upgrade, and maintenance of all public buildings to global standards. This project will not only provide much-needed housing but also create jobs and boost the local economy.”
The Federal Housing Authority (FHA) Managing Director, Hon. Oyetunde Ojo, emphasized the importance of this project during his visit to Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa. He assured that the housing units would be affordable and cater to Nigerians from all walks of life. “We are committed to ensuring that these housing units are not abandoned and are built according to the specific needs of the state,” Ojo stated.
Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed his administration’s full support for the project, promising to provide the necessary land and resources to ensure its success. “This initiative aligns with our commitment to improving the living standards of our people,” the governor said.
The project is expected to include various types of housing units, from studio apartments to larger family homes, designed to be affordable for low-income residents, especially young people. The construction is set to begin soon, with a focus on delivering quality and sustainable housing solutions.
This collaboration marks a significant step towards addressing the housing deficit in Ondo State and demonstrates the government’s dedication to improving the quality of life for its citizens.
