Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire

The Federal Government of Nigeria on Monday listed 5 major location in the country which include Abuja, Lagos, Ogun, Kano,Kaduna and Sokoto states in quest of the “solidarity trials”, an international clinical trial to help find a cure for COVID-19 being spearheaded by the World Health Organization.

The federal government further warned infected patients in isolation and treatment centers against attacking medical experts and other frontline workers who are catering for their medical needs, describing such actions as inhuman, unacceptable and reprehensible.

The government claimed that it has conducted over 27,000 tests so far, while about 600 Nigerians in diaspora had been evacuated and are in isolation. The government has however confirmed that it has reached out to Madagascar for its said cure, which has been Identified as “Covid Organic,” but it was noted that the product will be subjected to scientific analysis to ascertain its genuineness before the country begins threading the path to local production.

Speaking Further about the development, Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, noted the clinical trial approval by the federal government is major support in helping the WHO on getting the vaccine against COVID-19, amidst the different options made available by researchers.

However, the President of the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, Dr Francis Faduyile has claimed that although the association (NMA) was not aware of the trial, he noted that the process is an integral scientific procedure without which any vaccines cannot be approved.

“We have been involved in other clinical trials not only on COVID-19 but in drug formulations. It is a normal thing in science and it does not mean that the Federal Government wants to use Nigerians as guinea pigs. They must have passed through a lot of processes before they want to do trials. “It is a normal scientific process of getting drugs approved as well as getting vaccines approved. We are not aware of this one the Federal government is planning but it is a normal process.” He added.
