Gov Poll: Kebbi PDP Candidate Rejects Results, Heads To Court

The governorship candidate for Peoples Democratic Party in Kebbi State, General Aminu Bande (retd.), has rejected the results that gave victory to the All Progressives Congress during the last poll.

The Independent National Electoral Commission in Kebbi State had on Sunday declared Nasir Idris of the APC as the winner of the governorship poll held in the state.

Announcing the result of the supplementary election held last Saturday, the Returning Officer, Professor Saidu Yusuf, said Idris scored 409,225 votes against his closest rival, Bande of the PDP, who had 360,940 votes.

But addressing newsmen in Birnin Kebbi, General Bande said he and the PDP would approach the court to reclaim “their mandate” stressing that the votes polled by the PDP during the election were genuine, credible and verifiable.

He said, “I thank all the PDP supporters in the state for standing behind me throughout the struggle as such we will not let them down because we will explore all judicial means to get our mandate.

“While appealing to our supporters to maintain peace and order, we are calling on the state government to unconditionally release over 60 PDP members unlawfully languishing in various jails.”
