Governor Seyi Makinde did not contact COVID-19 at PDP rally- Aide

Sequel to a post by the Nigerian Journalist Kemi Olunloyo on the results of Atiku’s son’s test to COVID-19, a lot of controversial stories have been aired to the atmosphere concerning the March 18 PDP south-west zonal unification rally which held in Ibadan. And following Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde’s positive test to the pandemic, a lot of assumptions were made on the governor contacting the Virus at the rally.

In response to this issue, the chief press secretary to oyo state Governor, Mr. Taiwo Adisa has disclosed that the Governor was not exposed to the Virus during the rally as there was no reported case about the pandemic in the state at that time. He further added that the governor showed no symptoms of the virus at the said time.

Mr. Taiwo Adisa also noted that there is no need to politicise a news like this as the case where the governor was exposed to COVID-19 was when he attended the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting, on March 19, in Abuja.

He noted that governors who attended the meeting were advised to self-isolate after one of the attendees tested positive to the pandemic. He said ” Governors went back to Abuja the following day and had series of meetings, the governors had contact with people that are known so no need to politicise the matter.

Seyi Makinde became the third governor to test positive to COVID-19 in Nigeria on the 30th of March after Bala Mohammed and Nasir El-Rufai of Bauchi and Kaduna State respectively tested positive to the virus.
