I’m Open For Investigation – Wamakko Tells EFCC

Former governor of Sokoto state and Senator representing Sokoto North senatorial district, Aliyu Wamakko

The Senator representing Sokoto North senatorial district, Aliyu Wamakko, has indicated his interest to face legitimate scrutiny by the anti-graft agencies over allegations of mismanagement of public funds.

Daily Trust reports that Wamakko said he is willing to submit himself to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for investigation but not for media trial.

A statement signed by the special assistant to the senator on media and publicity, Bashir Mani, on Tuesday, September 24, said the alleged mismanagement of over N18 billion against Wamakko when he was in office as Sokoto state governor is false.

Mani said the allegation was orchestrated to tarnish the senator’s image. He also challenged those involved to publish his bank accounts and other details to back their nefarious and virulent unsubstantiated claims.

“For the avoidance, any doubt, this fake and debilitating report was circulated by the same deluded agents of doom and merchants of falsehood, in April 2018, but, their heinous efforts, then failed woefully to soil the good and ever-rising stars of Senator Wamakko,” Mani said in the statement.

The senator also denied any involvement in mismanagement of public funds during his tenure as governor in the state. Wamakko said: “I am humanly capable of making mistakes, a loyal citizen that is not above the law, therefore I can submit myself for legitimate scrutiny and not this mere media trial.”
