INSECURITY: You Can’t Silence Us, We Will Continue To Keep Nigerians Informed – Media Chiefs Slams Buhari

Newspaper, Television and Radio station owners have slammed President Muhammadu Buhari over his move to gag the Nigerian media Practitioners.

Buhari through the office of ministry of information had issued a directive instructing radio and television stations not to give actual details of activities of bandits, terrorists and kidnappers in their reports.

Reacting to the letter, the President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, Mustapha Isah; the National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Chris Isiguzo; and the Executive Director, Centre for Media Law and Advocacy, Richard Akinnola asked the Federal Government to either withdraw the directive or be sued.

The media Chiefs further reminded the President, that it’s sole responsibility is to report activities as they happened and not responsible for creating the attacks. “We therefore call on President Muhammadu Buhari to call the National Broadcasting Commission and his Commissioner for Information, Lai Mohammed to order.
