The meeting between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has been adjourned until September 6, 2024. This decision was announced by the Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman, following a session held at the Federal Ministry of Education in Abuja. Both parties described the discussions as fruitful and agreed to reconvene to review the progress made on the issues discussed.

The meeting aimed to address the longstanding grievances of ASUU, including improvements in welfare, university funding, and the proliferation of universities. Professor Mamman emphasized that the government is committed to resolving these issues and has already made significant progress. He noted that the government would act on some agreements reached during the meeting before the next session.

ASUU President, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, expressed hope that the issues would be amicably resolved in the interest of Nigerian students and the country’s educational system. He highlighted that the union would take the decisions reached to its members and return with feedback at the next meeting.
