Kano Government Evacuates 1,213 Almajiris To Their Home State

Kano State Government on Sunday has disclosed that no fewer than 1, 213 Almajiris have been evacuated to their state of origin.

This was disclosed by, Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo, Chairman, Kano State Almajiri Evacuation Committee, he noted that “due process and proper screening are the hallmark of the ongoing evacuation exercise.”

The Chairman who is also the Commissioner for Local government disclosed that the Committee worked with the state Ministry of Health to ensure that Almajiris taken out of Kano to their respective states of origin are in good health.

He said Kano has so far, received over 200 Almajiris returnees from Kaduna, Plateau and Niger states respectively.

Garo stressed ‘as I speak to you,they are being quarantined in Kiru Reformatory Institute, where they are being provided with free feeding and medication by the state government.”

Furthermore, giving a report of COVID-19 pandemic in the state, the Coordinator (Technical) Kano COVID-19 Task Force, Dr. Tijjani Hussaini said so far Kano has recorded 576 confirmed cases of COVID-19.

He further claimed that 32 patients have so far been discharged, while 21 deaths have been recorded, adding so far, 1, 637 Frontline health workers have been trained to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking on behalf of the chairman of the Kano State Fund Raising Committee on COVID-19, Prof. Muhammad Yahuza Bello, the state Commissioner of Information, Malam Muhammad Garba, who is also a member of the Committee, said Palliatives have been distributed to the most vulnerable in the society across the 44 Local Government Areas in the state.
