Labour unions to meet Bauchi Governor on new minimum wage

The Organised Labour in Bauchi State, comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress, and the Trade Union Congress, have disclosed that preparations are ongoing to meet with the Bauchi State Government to see to the implementation of the new national minimum wage.

The council who has agreed to inaugurate a 13-man technical committee that will review and harmonise salary structures in the state explained that the step taken is towards implementing the 2024 national minimum wage.

Speaking during a press conference held at the Medical and Health Workers Secretariat, Bauchi, on Friday, the State NLC chairman, Dauda Sha’aibu, indicated the implementation of the 2024 new National Minimum Wage Act in Bauchi.

He noted, “The National Council of Nigerian Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress recently organised a two-day training on the strategies and methodologies of conducting minimum wage negotiations at the state and local government level towards achieving the set objectives.

“And the rationale behind forming the committee is to get ideas on salary structures in the state before meeting Governor Bala Mohammed on the need to implement the new national minimum wage act.”

Sha’aibu expressed hope that there will be a success at the end of the committee’s assignment for the benefit of all.
