Maid Arrested for Allegedly Stealing $60,000 worth of Jewelry

Alice Udey, a 33-year-old woman, has reportedly been arrested by Nigerian police on allegations of stealing jewelry worth over $60,000 from her employer, less than 24 hours after beginning her position as a maid.

The arrest followed a meticulous 16-month investigation that uncovered a coordinated scheme targeting wealthy households. Udey, who is said to have used multiple aliases, was apprehended at the Ikoyi Police Station.

Authorities revealed that the suspect, along with other accomplices, has been posing as domestic staff to gain access to affluent homes for the purpose of theft.

“This operation seems to be a deliberate effort to infiltrate residences by masquerading as domestic workers and then stealing valuable items,” a senior police officer, speaking anonymously, stated. “We suspect that Ms. Udey is linked to a broader syndicate operating in upscale neighborhoods.”

Udey’s arrest came after a prolonged period of surveillance and intelligence gathering by the police. Investigators at the Ikoyi Police Station are also pursuing additional individuals believed to be part of the criminal network.

In their efforts to dismantle this organized crime group, police are urging residents to report any similar incidents.

Udey is expected to face charges of theft, and further accusations may arise as the investigation continues.
