Malawi Military Aircraft Carrying Vice President Chilima Goes Missing

A Malawi Defense Force aircraft with Vice President Saulos Klaus Chilima and nine others onboard has been reported missing. The aircraft, which departed from the capital, Lilongwe, was scheduled to land at Mzuzu International Airport but failed to arrive as expected.

“Efforts to establish contact with the aircraft since it disappeared from radar have been unsuccessful,” stated a spokesperson from the Office of the President and Cabinet. The president’s office confirmed that the plane took off at approximately 9:17 am local time and was due to land at 10:02 am.

President Lazarus Chakwera has canceled his planned trip to the Bahamas and has directed authorities to launch an immediate search and rescue operation. “The safety of Vice President Chilima and all those onboard is our utmost priority,” President Chakwera expressed in a statement.

The nation holds its breath as the search continues, with hopes for the safe return of Vice President Chilima and the nine other individuals. Further details will be provided as the situation unfolds.
