In a sweeping operation, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) apprehended 44 individuals suspected of engaging in internet fraud in Ilorin, Kwara State. The arrests took place on Friday, September 6, 2024, following actionable intelligence.
The EFCC’s Ilorin Zonal Directorate executed the operation at multiple sites, including Sango, Kulende, Texaco, and Harmony Estate. Among the items seized were six luxury cars, various laptops, smartphones, and charms.
Dele Oyewale, EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, commented, “This operation underscores our commitment to eradicating internet fraud in Nigeria. The suspects will face charges in court once investigations are complete.”
A suspect, speaking on condition of anonymity, remarked, “I am stunned by this turn of events. It serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of cybercrime.”
The EFCC continues to ramp up its anti-cybercrime initiatives, with numerous arrests made in recent months. The commission calls on citizens to stay alert and report any suspicious behavior.
