Nigeria lost a medical doctor to COVID-19 as case rises above 400

The sting of COVID-19 has hitted another sensitive portion of the country as a specialist in obstetrics and gynecology lost the battle against COVID-19 in Lagos State. The medical doctor who contacted the virus from an infected patient he had been treating in a private hospital, later crossed the great beyond after several struggles to recover him from the pandemic.

The deceased who is identified as Doctor Chugbo Emeka is the first medical officer to die from COVID-19 in the country.

Professor Chris Bode, Chief Medical Director LUTH noted that Doctor Chugbo was admitted late on Monday after he showed severe symptoms of the pandemic. He further added that the deceased was a worker in LUTH before he moved into private practice.

However, the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) has sent their condolence to the family of the deceased who was a one time Vice President of the National Association of Resident Doctors in LUTH.
