Nigerian Army Tasks Online Publishers For Peace, Security

Chief of civil Military Affairs, Major General U.S. Mohammed while addressing online Journalists and participants at the Civil Military Relations Seminar for Journalists & Social Media Influencers, Held yesterday at Best Western Hotels, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The Nigerian Army has called on Online Journalists and Social Media Bloggers to ensure peace and security of Nigeria is sustained through the spread of right information with correct narratives reporter on their platforms.

The Chief of Civil Military Affairs (CCMA), Maj. Gen. US Mohammed made this sincere call recently while addressing men of the fourth estate of the realm at a one day interactive session organised by the Nigerian Army in conjunction with the Security Affairs.

Mohammed noted that the Nigerian Army has galllantrily made numerous giant strides, especially in fighting issue of insurgence in the country, but their efforts in that direction have always been under reported by online journalists.

“We acknowledge the fact that you all have very important roles to play in te development of peace and security in this country. It is very obvious that what you say, the way you say it and how it spreads have far reaching implications than most of us are aware.”

He enjoined the operators of social media and online platforms to ensure the era of spreading fake news and hate speeches, which are dauntingly destructive and misleading, is put to stop.

“Imbibe the spirit of love and patriotism for our country, because doing the opposite means undermining our country. The people in the other countries will always believe whatever we say of our own country.”

Without mincing words, the Civil relation Army Officer said the Nigerian has touched the lives of the average citizens for better in the areas of community outreaches through Quick Impact Projects in the last four years.

At the end of the interactive session, lots of way forward recommendations were brainstormed on by social media influencers, online journalists and other stakeholders who converged on the Best Western Hotel, venue of the event.

It will be recalled that the interactive session between the Department of Civil Military Affairs of the Nigerian Army and the Social Media Bloggers and Online Journalists have been held in other states of the federation.

Meanwhile, this Lagos interactive session with the theme: “The Role of the Media in Civil Military Relations as a Non-Kinetic Tool for Enhanced Peace and Security in Nigeria” is the 7th edition with urge successes.
