Nigerian Crossdresser, Bobrisky bags Six Months

Controversial Nigerian social media personality Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, has been sentenced to six months in prison for defacing Nigerian currency, the Naira.

A Federal High Court judge in Lagos, Justice Abimbola Awogboro, found Bobrisky guilty on Friday after he pleaded guilty to a four-count charge brought by Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The charges stemmed from a video Bobrisky posted online earlier this year, which showed him spraying and apparently stepping on Naira notes. Defacing or mutilating the Naira is a crime in Nigeria.

Justice Awogboro stated that the sentence was intended to serve as a deterrent to others who might consider similar offenses. The judge also ruled that Bobrisky’s jail term began on the day of his arrest.

Bobrisky’s case has garnered significant attention on social media in Nigeria, with many users expressing mixed reactions to the verdict.
