Gov. Rochas Okorocha of Imo has identified the provision of free education in the state as one of the landmark achievements of his eight years administration.

Okorocha said this on Tuesday during the closing ceremony of the 2019 ‘Batch A’ orientation exercise at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) permanent orientation camp at Eziama Obaire in Nkwerre Local Government Area of the state.

The governor, who was represented by the Chairman of the Governing Board of NYSC in the state, Mr Ifeanyichukwu Onwueyiagba, charged the corps members not to relent in their quest for further knowledge.

He called on them to bring their education to bear in the development of society, saying that “quality education is the passport to knowledge and knowledge, in turn, is power.” “I urge you dear corps members to remain dogged in the pursuit of knowledge for it is power as you move to your various places of primary assignment,” he said.

He said that his administration had successfully built 305 primary schools and 27 Information Communication Technology (ICT) centres spread across the 27 LGAs of the state.

korocha said: “We are also constructing a modern ICT facility in Owerri capital city. “We hope you will make good use of these provisions and bring your education to bear in the development of society.”

In his speech, the NYSC state coordinator, Mr Sunday Aroni, thanked the state government for its unalloyed support to the scheme. Ironi also advised the 2,184 corps members to maintain a cordial relationship with their host communities during their primary assignments.
