The stakes are high as 171,922 delegates prepare to cast their votes to determine the party’s flagbearer for the upcoming governorship election slated for November 16, 2024.

The primary promises to be a tight contest among several aspirants, including the incumbent Deputy Governor, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa. The APC has drawn delegates from 203 wards across the 18 local government areas of the state, all of whom hold the future of the 16 aspirants in their hands.

The list of contenders is diverse, featuring notable figures such as Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, Senior Advocate of Nigeria Olusola Oke, former President of the Nigerian Medical Association Prof. Francis Faduyile, engineer Dr. Funmi Waheed-Adekojo, and the APC National Vice Chairman (South-West), Isaacs Kekemeke.

The APC has taken meticulous steps to ensure a smooth primary, inaugurating officials to oversee the election process. The seven-man Primary Election Committee, led by Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo, will conduct the direct primary. Meanwhile, a five-man committee will handle post-election appeals and complaints.

As the primary approaches, the aspirants have intensified their campaigns, reaching out to delegates and party members. The outcome of this primary is not just crucial for the APC but also for the political future of Ondo State as it moves closer to the governorship election.
