Ondo APC Primary: Governor Aiyedatiwa in Early Lead

Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Executive Governor of Ondo State

The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary in Ondo State has seen incumbent Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa take a commanding lead. As the collation of votes continues, Aiyedatiwa’s victory seems imminent despite the emergence of protests and calls for procedural transparency.

The primary election, which was held across the 18 council areas of the state, was not without its share of drama. Several aspirants have voiced concerns over alleged irregularities and have demanded the replacement of Kogi Governor Ododo as the Electoral Committee Chairman. The discontent stems from claims of electoral materials not being distributed to many of the 203 wards, casting a shadow over the legitimacy of the voting process.

Despite these challenges, reports from various council areas indicate that Aiyedatiwa has outperformed the other 15 contestants, leading to a comfortable margin. The results, which are still being finalized, show Aiyedatiwa’s dominance in the Central, South, and Northern senatorial areas of the state.

The APC has adopted a direct primary mode, allowing all accredited party members to cast their votes for their preferred aspirants. This method was chosen to ensure a broad-based participation in the selection process.

As the state awaits the official announcement of the primary’s outcome, the tension underscores the high stakes involved in the political landscape of Ondo State. The final results are expected to be declared later tonight or early tomorrow, which will determine whether Aiyedatiwa’s lead will translate into an outright victory.
