More than 72% of polling unit results from Saturday’s Ondo State governorship election have been uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission Result Viewing (IReV) portal as of 4:50 p.m, a Vanguard Online review shows.
The latest upload, according to the portal, was recorded at 4:50 p.m.
As of 4:50 p.m., Vanguard’s check revealed that 2,852 out of 3,933 polling unit results had been submitted on the IReV portal.
Meanwhile, INEC reported that 3,823 (97%) of the 3,933 polling units across the 203 wards in Ondo’s 18 local government areas had opened by 8:30 a.m. The remaining 110 polling units opened between 8:31 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.
Gunshots rock Ondo, Edo border community
There was reported firing of gunshots by some unknown persons at Ofosun Village, an Ondo community at the boundary with Edo State.
The incident, it was learnt, caused panic, forcing people to stay indoors to avoid being hit by stray bullets.
When contacted, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, Funmi Odunlami, said she was in transit.
She also said the incident had not been reported to her.
Aiyedatiwa gives condition to accept defeat
The Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, said he would accept defeat if the governorship election did not favour him.
Lucky Aiyedatiwa said that he would accept the outcome as long as the voting process remains peaceful.
Interior Minister, Tunji-Ojo casts his vote
The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has voted in the ongoing Ondo State governorship election. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, a member of the All Progressives Congress-led federal government, cast his vote at unit 17: Ward 3, Okeagbe Local Government Area.
He commended the peaceful process of the election and the turnout of voters. He stated that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) staff were professional.
The Minister of Interior had, in a series of tweets on his X handle, called on Ondo people to vote for the candidate of the APC, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa. According to him, Governor Aiyedatiwa’s victory would lead to a continuation of developmental programmes in the state.
Olafeso wins polling unit for Ajayi
Dr. Eddy Olafeso, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Chairman of the Agboola Ajayi Campaign Council, has secured victory for the party in his polling unit.
At Ward 1, Unit 004, Olumekun Compound, Idepe, in Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State, a total of 171 voters were accredited, with the PDP defeating the APC by 17 votes.

As Ondo State engages in its critical governorship election today, reports of vote buying and inducement have surfaced across all 18 local government areas, raising alarm about the integrity of the electoral process.
DSS arrests alleged vote-buyer with bags of money
Officials of the Department of State Services (DSS) have arrested a suspected vote-buyer during the Ondo governorship election. The suspect was apprehended with two bags of money believed to be intended for bribing voters.
The arrest took place at Ward 4, Polling Unit 007, outside St. Stephen’s Primary School in Akure, Ondo State, around 9 am on election day. The DSS has not yet disclosed further details about the suspect or the ongoing investigation.
