Ondo Governor Approves Massive Solar Streetlight Project to Combat Crime and Boost Infrastructure

Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Executive Governor of Ondo State

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has approved the installation of 1,600 solar-powered streetlights across the state. This initiative is part of a broader effort to address the long-standing neglect of grassroots communities and improve the quality of life for residents.

The announcement was made by Mr. Oluwafemi Fadairo, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Community Engagement (Ondo Central), during a program organized by the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Ondo State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists. Fadairo highlighted that the streetlights would be installed in communities across the three senatorial districts in the first phase of the project.

Governor Aiyedatiwa, who has been in office for less than a year, is also prioritizing the sinking of 54 boreholes to provide clean water to underserved areas. “Governor Aiyedatiwa is committed to alleviating the suffering in our communities. He has a listening ear, and the atmosphere in the state is calm due to his exemplary leadership,” Fadairo stated.

The solar-powered streetlights are expected to play a crucial role in deterring criminal activities, particularly in rural areas where darkness often provides cover for illicit activities. “Streetlights are essential for deterring criminals who use the bush to carry out their activities,” Fadairo added.

In addition to the streetlight project, the governor has approved the construction of 20 kilometers of roads in each of the 18 local government areas. These infrastructure projects are part of the governor’s commitment to delivering on his promises and demonstrating his zeal to serve the people.

The governor’s aide urged the people of Ondo State to support Governor Aiyedatiwa in the forthcoming governorship election on November 16, emphasizing the governor’s achievements as a reason for continued support.
