Ondo State Government Meeting with Community over Isolation center turns Bloody

The crucial meeting between the delegation of Ondo State Government and the leaders of the Ilutitun community in Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State over a plan by the government to site an Isolation Center at the town due to the spread of Coronavirus Pandemic in Nigeria, on Saturday, went riotous.

It was gathered that the meeting was already ongoing at the community town hall with all the necessary stakeholders deliberating on the proposed Isolation center when some hoodlums suddenly appeared from nowhere the moment they sighted the local government chairman, Omoba Abayomi Adesanya, who arrived the venue of the meeting with his Aides and some security personnel.

While the town hall meeting was ongoing, there was another meeting at the palace attended by the delegation by the state government. Zebra News can report that our correspondent was attacked and wounded while trying to cover the event at the town hall meeting. His phones and camera were damaged in the process.

Speaking with the Monarch of the community on Phone, Oba Earnest Adeoye Idepefo, the Majuwa of Ilutitun, said that his palace was also attacked by the hoodlums. He said they came to the palace and broke the palace’s roofing sheets with some aluminum fabricated glass. Effort to speak with the Caretaker Chairman of Okitipupa Local Government proved abortive as his phone was not reachable.

But Mr. Similoluwa Akindusoye, the Publicity Secretary of Ilutitun Youths Development Forum, said nobody was attacked. He explained that the meeting was going on peaceful with deliberations to reject or accept the government proposal when the environment suddenly became crowded and unsecured which ended the meeting in a deadlock, and consequently led to the disappearance of all stakeholders from the premises of the venue.

Some of the youths of the town who spoke to Starnews NG under the condition of anonymity said the youths of the town had reached an agreement and vowed not to allow any isolation center to be brought to the heart of the community because they had been abandoned for years without electricity or any single project embarked upon in the town by the government of Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.
