The chairman of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Yobe state, Sani Inuwa Nguru, has decamped to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), less than 40 hours to Nigeria’s Presidential and National Assembly elections.
Zebra News understands that Nguru was in Aso Rock, Nigeria’s Presidential Villa, on Thursday to declare his support for President Muhammadu Buhari, who is seeking a second term in office.
The PDP, based on this development, will be heading into the polls on Saturday without a leader in the northeast state, which also houses the state of its Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
The incumbent president and the former vice president are the front runners in the race for Nigeria’s highest office.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s electoral umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), says the total number of Nigerians recorded to have collected their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) is 72,775,502.
National Chairman of the electoral umpire Mahmood Yakubu made this known on Thursday while updating the media on the commission’s preparedness for the polls.
According to the commission, all registered electorates must present their PVCs for authentication on Election Day.
And the INEC boss said that owners of 11, 228,582 cards yet to be collected will not be able to vote on Saturday, as the card is a condition for would-be-voters.
