In a significant political event, President Bola Tinubu has officially presented the All Progressives Congress (APC) flag to the party’s gubernatorial candidate for Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, and his running mate, Dennis Idahosa. The ceremony, which took place at the State House in Abuja, marks a formal endorsement of the candidates by the APC ahead of the Edo State gubernatorial election slated for September 2024.
During the presentation on Monday, President Tinubu expressed his confidence in the APC’s victory in the upcoming election. He stated, “The strength of our party and the quality of our candidates give me great optimism for the future of Edo State. I am proud to present this flag as a symbol of our unity and commitment to progress.”
The event was not just a formality but also a resolution of internal party disputes. It was reported that Dennis Idahosa has been asked to withdraw his court case against Okpebholo’s candidature, which had been a point of contention within the party. The APC Chairman, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, led the delegation to the Villa, signifying a united front as the party moves into the election period.
Senator Okpebholo, upon receiving the flag, remarked, “This flag is more than a piece of fabric; it is a mandate from our great party to serve the people of Edo State with integrity and dedication. We are ready to lead Edo to greater heights.”
The presentation ceremony was attended by notable figures, including the Senator representing Edo North Senatorial District, Adams Oshiomhole, and former representative of Edo South in the Senate, Matthew Urhoghide, among others.
The APC’s gubernatorial team is now set to embark on their campaign, carrying the hopes of their party and the aspirations of their supporters into what promises to be a keenly contested election.
