Protest Over Tuition Fees: I Share In Your Pains – Akingboye Tells OSUSTECH Students

Otunba Bamidele Akingboye

Otunba Bamidele Akingboye, a governorship aspirant of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in next year’s governorship election in Ondo State, shares in the pains of parents and entire students of Ondo State University of Science and Technology (OSUSTECH), Okitipupa over the humongous tuition fees forced upon them by the state government and school management.

Ondo State being one of the richest states in Nigeria, with mind-blowing resources and revenue; huge flow of capital into state government coffer and budget on education is capable of financing state-owned tertiary institutions without increasing tuition fees or extorting students through backdoor.

Sadly, the APC-led government in the state seems to derive pleasure in inflicting pains and hardships on the masses via introduction and implementation of anti people policies as seen in OSUSTECH.

Again, their desperate moves to destroy the good legacies past PDP governments have recorded in the education sector is condemnable. It only shows the insensitivity of the APC-led government to the plight of the citizens.

The state government is therefore advised to revisit the agitation by students for reduction in tuition fees as such step would place the state on sound footing of academic excellence like the good old days.

While the university management has announced temporary closure of the school, the Governing Council of the institution is implored to work out rational modalities for resolving the ugly situation, so that students could meet up with their counterparts in other universities.

However, the good people of Ondo state are assured of Akingboye’s commitment to a functional education system of international standard, affordable to all and sundry and job creation for teeming population of the state if elected as governor next year.
