Regina Daniels: When Acting Becomes A Goldmine

Regina Daniels

By Eniola Daniel

I think a youth like myself should join this Regina Daniels debate, not as someone who criticizes or praises. I’m just on the fence, not trying to throw stones or seek relevance, but to call for public attention on a very germane issue apart from our brainwashing, brain draining politics, the rumor of President Muhammadu Buhari’s Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari’s daughter Aisha Abba-Kyari been appointed as an assistant vice president at the Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA) under secretive and controversial circumstances and placed on N32m Salary in another Secret Recruitment as alleged by Coalition Against Corruption and Bad Governance, CACOBAG or the Akinwumi Ambode commissioning of uncompleted projects in Lagos.

Ambode case made me to remember a man building three bedroom flats, the man was able to complete a room, then throw party for house warming, whatever that means, it’s a matter for another day.But we must know by now that does that live in the king’s palace are afraid of being kidnapped, I’m only referring to the kidnap that took place in President’s Buhari home town, I mean in Daura.. What a shame!!!!!!!!!!!

But we must thank God for the Nigerian movie industry called Nollywood, apart from the recent agreement signed with French movie industry on movie exchange. Nigerian actors, especially the female are acquiring houses, buying cars while few of their male counterpart except the big fish can boast of buying Benz 2001, it’s really an achievement because I can’t even afford one now. Babasuwe who I grow up to watch on Black and White screen is still battling with ailment, depending on the good Samaritan act.

Gone are those days where actors ‘only’ complain about Pirates making them go bankrupt, now they can boast of being on the payrolls of multinational companies as Ambassadors, take their movie to the cinemas and Netflix.

Take it or leave it, Regina Daniels is making herself proud, making heads spin with the latest news of her buying her third car in two months. Private jet may just happen very soon. If Apostle Suleiman despite the hunger in the land can buy a private jet, Regina can also do it, as the saying goes, ‘what a man can do, a woman can do better.

I’d in several occasions refused to be drawn into the rumor that a rich drummer is beating the drum for the young Nollywood actress while she dances. I don’t care about that because she’s been able to convince me that she has the ability to achieve what she’s currently enjoying and her talent can get her more, even if she’s not on the top 10 most paid movie stars in Nigeria. Regina case is a case of Grace at work.

This is my only issue against the young lady, her showing off is encouraging what is refers to as Small Girl, Big God. I took to the Micro blogging site, Twitter recently and I discovered that Regina has suddenly become a yardstick among her age group, a kind of regret to her older ones for whatever reason.

But in all, if the Nigeria film industry can be made to witness significant growth, more actress with things to show off will certainly emerge and the film industry can be an oil well. Since 2013, the film industry reportedly hit a record breaking revenue of ₦1.72 trillion (US$11 billion). As of 2014, the industry was worth ₦853.9 billion (US$5.1 billion) making it the third most valuable film industry in the world, behind the United States and India.
