Philip Shaibu, the reinstated Deputy Governor of Edo State, has formally rejoined the All Progressives Congress (APC) after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Accompanied by prominent members of the Dan Orbih-led Legacy Group of the PDP, Shaibu made his return to the APC in Benin City, the state capital, on Saturday, July 20.
Speaking about his decision, Shaibu emphasized that he aims to add value to the APC and contribute to the party’s growth. He stated, “It is time to take back our state. We will not talk too much because action will speak for us. We are not afraid. We are ready to move forward”. His return comes after a court ruling that voided his impeachment as Deputy Governor, citing procedural irregularities by the Edo State House of Assembly.
The political landscape in Edo State remains dynamic, and Shaibu’s move has drawn attention from both supporters and critics. As the APC prepares for upcoming elections, his alignment with the party signals potential shifts in the state’s political dynamics.
