Senator Tofowomo Scores Again, As NEMA Donates Relief Materials to Victims of Aiyetoro Sea Incursion

On May 18, 2021, the Senate urged the federal government to strive hard and rescue communities affected by the ocean surge in the Aiyetoro community in the Ilaje local government area of Ondo State.

This was as a result of the adoption of a motion titled “Another Cry to Rescue Ayetoro Community in Ondo State from Continuous Ocean Surge,” sponsored by Senator Nicholas Tofowomo, the Lawmaker representing Ondo South Senatorial District under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Otunba Tofowomo, the ATAYESE OF ONDO SOUTH had on May 18, 2021, cited orders 42 and 52 of Senate Rule, recalling that on November 25, 2020, he drew the attention of the Senate to the plight of the Ayetoro community, following an ocean urge which destroyed over 300 houses.

Angered that none of the three resolutions reached by the Senate on that day was implemented, the angry and outspoken voice of freedom, Sen Tofowomo, again moved another motion, appealing to the federal government and all the relevant agencies, and the oil companies operating in the area to please come to Ayetoro community’s rescue.

Besides granting all the prayers in the motion, the Senate also urged the Federal Government to set up a rescue committee to rescue the affected community immediately.

Yesterday, the National Emergency Management Agency, (NEMA), formally handed over many relief materials through the Ondo State Government, to victims of the Ayetoro ocean surge in Igbokoda, headquarters of Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State.

While this news is cheering, it may also interest the public to know that the Federal Government has directed the Ministry of Environment and the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, to look into the plight of the community and carry out necessary construction works to mitigate the Ocean surge in the area.

Senator Nicholas Tofowomo, while congratulating the good people of AIYETORO COMMUNITY for the new development and timely intervention by the Federal Government, has also appreciated the Federal Government of Nigeria under President Muhammadu Buhari for the timely intervention.

He said: “I congratulate the good people of AIYETORO COMMUNITY for this timely intervention by the Federal Government. It gladdens my heart that our voices have been heard by the Federal Government and all the relevant agencies.”

“Though the struggle to rescue the community is not yet over. I will rest not until the Sea incursion in the Aiyetoro community becomes a thing of the past,” the Senator said.
