U.S. Embassy Closes Abuja, Lagos Offices Feb. 22

The U.S Embassy has announced that its Abuja office and Consulate General in Lagos will be closed on Friday in recognition of the public holiday declared by the Federal Government.

The embassy made this known in a statement on Thursday in Abuja.

The federal government has declared Friday, Feb. 22 as a Work-Free Day to enable Nigerians to prepare for the rescheduled Presidential and National Assembly Elections on Saturday, Feb 23.

This was revealed in a statement by the Ministry of Interior on Wednesday, when it, however, noted that the holiday excludes bankers and those offering essential services.

“The work-free day is to enable citizens to return to their polling units for the rescheduled Presidential & National Assembly elections.

“Security agencies have been directed to ensure the safety of lives and property before, during and after the general election,” the statement said

Reacting to the public holiday, the U.S. Embassy said, “In recognition of this declaration and to encourage all our Nigerian employees to exercise their right to vote, the U.S. Embassy in Abuja and the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos will be closed.

“No consular services will be available. If you already have a regular visa or ACS appointment for that date, you will be contacted for rescheduling.”
