UK Assures Nigerians of Safety Amid Ongoing Anti-Immigration Riots

The British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Richard Montgomery, has assured Nigerians living in the UK of their safety following recent anti-immigration riots in several British towns. Montgomery made the assurance during a meeting with the CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, in Abuja on Wednesday.

The assurance comes after nearly a week of far-right riots and anti-immigration protests across the UK, which prompted several countries, including Nigeria, Malaysia, and Indonesia, to issue safety warnings to their citizens either living in the UK or visiting the country.

The riots were triggered by misinformation surrounding a stabbing attack that left three young girls dead in Southport. While the situation remains tense, authorities are actively monitoring and urging vigilance among affected communities.
