Underage Voters Will Not Be Tolerated – INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commissioner (INEC) has revealed that underage voters will be arrested and their sponsors prosecuted.

This threat came from the INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, made this known at a news conference, in Abuja on Friday ahead of the general election.

According to Mahmood, the commission is working with security agencies to arrest underage voters and their sponsors.

“Any underage person caught trying to be accredited or voting on the day of election will be arrested,” he added.

“Voting is only open to Nigerian citizens who are above the statutory age of 18.

“Let me seize this opportunity to warn those who may wish to sponsor underage persons to vote on the day of the election that they will be arrested.”
