UPDATE: Actor Junior Pope Confirmed Dead After Boat Mishap

Following earlier reports, the death of Nollywood actor Junior Pope Odonwodo, popularly known as Jnr Pope, has been confirmed by the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN).

There was initial confusion about the details surrounding his passing. However, it’s now clear that Jnr Pope died on Wednesday, April 10th, in a boat accident on the Anam River in Anambra State.

According to filmmaker Samuel Olatunji, Jnr Pope, along with three other actors, lost their lives when their boat capsized while returning from a film location.

“What a sad day for Nollywood. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family,” Olatunji wrote on his Instagram page.

The National President of AGN, Emeka Rollas, confirmed Jnr Pope’s death in a statement: “It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of our beloved actor, Jnr Pope. He was a talented and dedicated member of our community, and he will be deeply missed.”

This news comes as a shock to fans and colleagues across Nigeria’s film industry. Jnr Pope was a rising star known for his charismatic performances. Many expressed their condolences on social media.

“This is a huge loss,” said Nollywood actress Uche Jombo. “Jnr Pope was a bright light in our industry. May his soul rest in peace.”
